New Avalanche Safety from BCA

Protect your head, Prevent Burial

BCA-productsExcavation time is by far the biggest contributing factor in avalanche fatalities. By reducing or eliminating burial depth you substantially increase your chances of survival. The Float 30 is the first airbag that is both affordable and easily reusable. Back Country Access uses a smaller cylinder, single–chamber 150–liter airbag, and super–efficient venturi system to reduce cost and weight. The airbag itself not only helps prevent burial, but protects the head, neck and upper body from trauma. With its location behind the head and away from the hips and arms, it preserves the user’s peripheral vision and his or her ability to escape the avalanche before it picks up speed.

on Thursday, 03 June 2010. Posted in Heliskiing News

Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, with our location in BC's remote Northwest, has long been renowned for providing the deepest, most reliable, snowpack on the planet and, between you and me, all that deep fluffy stuff doesn't fall from blue skies... It Snows up here and it's Deeper up here!

With all that snow comes some inevitability difficult flying conditions. Therefore, NEH is proud to offer snowcat back-up to all of our heliskiing packages. Now, when the snow is falling hard and it's lying deep in the trees, you'll be enjoying some of the finest, deepest, powder skiing/boarding available thanks to our snowcat back up. Ski/board every day of your package – guaranteed!

Our catskiing area was created out of some of our best tree skiing terrain and encompasses over 6,000 acres, that's nearly the size of Whistler and Blackcomb ski areas combined. It offers everything from steep trees to pillows and open bowls with an average run length of over 2,000 vertical feet.

Should the weather clear enough to fly while we are catskiing, the helicopter will simply pick us up and we'll continue our day of deep powder skiing without interruption. Or, if we're heliskiing and the weather starts to turn for the worse, we will meet the snowcats and again continue our day seamlessly enjoying that deep powder. It's the best combination imaginable - Heliskiing/boarding perfected!

Elevation Drunk in Revelstoke

on Wednesday, 05 May 2010. Posted in Heliskiing News

By Jane Marshall, Freelance

By the end of my weekend at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, I was officially elevation-drunk.

Perhaps it was the massive vertical achieved through six helicopter drops in the 500,000 acres that comprise Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing backcountry terrain; or maybe it was from skiing on North America's longest resort runs.

Either way, my brain struggled to comprehend the gargantuan scale of the mountains.

Day 1: Heli-skiing with Selkirk Tangiers

I extended my avalanche transceiver and worked with my group to find the hidden beacon. We located our target, marked it and began to probe the snow.

2011 Powder Skis!

on Tuesday, 02 March 2010. Posted in Heliskiing News

Fresh Boards for your pleasure

Here is a look at some of our favourite 2011 Powder Skis from K2, Armada, Rossignol, and  Volkl.

Armada-JJ-20112011 Armada JJ

Fairly mellow graphic, great ski that can do everything well.

k2-hellbent-20112011 K2 Hellbent

Ugly as ever, but still skis awesome!  Amazingly maneuverable for such a large ski, and you can still rail turns if you put em up on edge.

k2-obsethed-20112011 K2 Obsethed

Great graphic, gotta love the bright bases.  New Powder rocker on the front ( more like the Hell Bent ) with classic rocker on the back.  Still one of my favorite skis made even better.

Volkl-Chopstick-20112011 Volkl Chopstick

I really want to get these out in the powder to really try them out.  Great graphic, the Volkl feel in a big pow pow ski.

Rossignol-s7-20112011 Rossignol S7

Nice graphic, not as friendly on the groomed as the rest. Very solid ski.
